5 Reasons NOT To Move To West Michigan

Before you start Googling “houses in Zeeland” or “brewery jobs in Grand Rapids” because your neighbor in your urban apartment complex told you West Michigan is somewhere with enjoyable living, let us warn you:
West Michigan is dangerously livable.

It’s the kind of place where you might just relax and figure out what a balanced life looks like, and who has time for that? Here are 5 totally reasonable reasons NOT to move to West Michigan – emphasis on the sarcasm.

1. Theres too much outdoor fun

AND in all four seasons? Sounds too good to be true, but seriously, West Michigan is full of great trails, rivers, dunes, kayaking, hiking, and biking. I don’t know about you, but binge watching TV sounds better than any of that silliness.

2. Lake Michigan is just a drive away

Yeah yeah yeah, so the big beautiful lake that visitors ask if it’s an ocean is seriously just right there. It really is kind of distracting, how are you supposed to get anything done when a coastal town and great beaches are so close.

3. "local this, local that"

The community of local businesses and local makers is all around in West Michigan. You’ll start referring to you “goat cheese guy” by name and tell your friends all about the process by which he makes it. Not to mention, places like Wealthy St in Grand Rapids and Downtown Rockford are flooded with small, locally-owned shops that will have you spending more money.

4. You'll accidentally become a work-life balance person

Without 3-hour commutes and parking problems, you’ll find yourself having time to invest in hobbies and focus on relationships that bring you joy. Are you sure you want that? You might even start liking winter because of it and talking about how much you love where you live over a glass of hard cider at Farmhaus or Vandermill.

5. And then, you won't leave

All of a sudden, living in West Michigan will seem like the home you’ve always wanted and you’ll become a regular at a local coffee shop where the baristas know your order, so how could you ever want to leave?

If you’ve made it this far and are thinking, That actually sounds really nice, then you might just be too far gone. You might as well just give us a call and we can start finding the home and community that is right for you in the West Michigan area.
